No, I said use BLOOD red

October 11, 2006

Saw IIIHmm. This is either the grossest movie poster ever created or the most brilliant. To promote the soon-to-be-released Saw III, Lionsgate Pictures has actually drawn blood from the picture’s star Tobin Bell, which has been splattered across a limited edition set of the movie’s posters. The posters will be for sale and all proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. A nice gesture, but as Adfreak puts it

The company’s trying to pass off the ploy as a charitable plan, saying that proceeds from the sale of the posters will go to the American Red Cross (though no one seems to have asked the Red Cross if they wouldn’t have preferred the pint of Bell’s blood in the first place).

Since Lionsgate didn’t think of it, you should. Find someplace to donate at givelife.org.

Lonelygirl15 isn’t so lonely anymore.

October 10, 2006

So I won’t bore people with a critique of the lonelygirl15 saga. I will say that I disagree with people who say that it was unethical, all you have to do is take a look at their ongoing support of the series. It wasn’t less eithical than “reality” tv in which people think they’re viewing real life. Hardly.

Anyways, what this post is really about is that the people behind lonelygirl15 have teamed up with the U.N. to produce a viral video for a new “Stand Up” movement at millenniumcampaign.org. The goal, similar to the One campaign people might be more familiar with, is to stamp out world hunger, forgive international debt, fight infant mortality, etc. The millennium campaign specifically targets the young generation, naming them as the first generation that can solve world hunger within their lifetime. Here’s the website, here’s the video:
